Radiance: Injectable effective for lips
If you have considered lip enhancement and want to try something that lasts a
very long time... then read on.
Preliminary data on a calcium hydroxylapatite injectable cohesive implant has
proven to be safe and effective for those patients who can benefit from lip
augmentation, offering advantages over current products with almost no side
effects or downtime. The FDA has approved the use of this product in the
human body. Specialists have injected this product into the vocal cords
and urinary bladder and they have found the product to be safe and effective and
to last for up to seven years.
As plastic surgeons we are interested in this product also. The
potential uses of this product include lip augmentation and use as a filler
agent for facial lines and wrinkles.
Calcium HydroxyApatite:
calcium HydroxyApatite (CaHA) is an
inorganic substance that mimics the structure of bone. FDA-approved for over 20
years in powder and block form for reconstruction of bony defects and facial
implants, CaHA microspheres are suspended in a carboxycellulose absorbable gel
for subcutaneous injection for furrows and lip augmentation. As the gel is
absorbed, collagen in growth into the lattices of the microspheres reinforces
the augmentation. Marketed in the U.S. as Radiance,
the material is injected over 2 or
3 sessions and is anticipated to last from 2-5 years. FDA approval for cosmetic
purposes is pending.
