Noninvasive Procedures Up 8% in '06According to figures released last month by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), minimally invasive cosmetic procedures jumped 8 percent to more than 9.1 million procedures in 2006. The top five minimally invasive procedures were Botulinum Toxin Type A (4.1 million), chemical peel (1.1 million), laser hair removal (887,000), microdermabrasion (817,000), and hyaluronic acid fillers (778,000). Body shaping procedures are among the fastest-growing procedures and are predicted to grow at an annual rate of 17.6 percent to almost 32 million by 2010, according to a 2006 report by Medical Insight. In 2005, 69 percent of these procedures were attributed to liposuction treatments; however, there is a strong desire for noninvasive options. For patients preferring not to undergo invasive, costly and sometimes traumatic cosmetic surgery treatments, there is an array of alternative noninvasive body treatments. One of the most obvious benefits is that these procedures have minimal to no downtime.
