When it comes to health risks,
the amount of fat you carry is
more important than how much you
weigh. The body mass index
(BMI), which looks at weight in
relation to height, is a good
indicator of excess body fat.
A healthy BMI is between 19 and
24.9, overweight is between 25
and 29.9, and obese is 30 or
greater. To calculate your
BMI, follow these steps:
-
Multiply your weight in
pounds by 704.5
-
Divide
the answer by your height in
inches
-
Divide
that result by your height
in inches again. This
number is your BMI.
For example:
Your height is 5 feet and 6
inches. Your weight is 128
pounds.
Your height in inches would be:
66 inches.
Multiply your weight (128 x
704.5) = 90,176
Divide this number (90,176 by
your height in inches 90,176/66
= 1,366
Divide this number again by your
height in inches 1,366/66 = 20.7
So your BMI is 20.7 (This
is a healthy BMI)
